Visit of Monet House and gardens - Giverny
A drive on the Normandy highway leads you to Giverny, a
charming country village. It was in Giverny that the painter Monet chose to
settle with his family. It was here that he indulged in his love of nature,
in his art, his gardening and his photography. You will see Monet's home,
his garden and workshop, all authentically restored. As you stroll in the
exquisitely colored gardens and admire the pond with the famous Japanese
bridge, enter into Monet's world where art and nature become one. Further down, a man-made, willow-shaded branch of the river Epte feeds the
Water Garden, with its celebrated Japanese Bridge and its wisteria, azaleas
and pond. More :

Monet Japanese prints in GivernyGiven that every Impressionist had his collection of Japanese prints, just what lay behind Monet's specific choices? It would be a mistake to see him as caught up in the fad for things Japanese or initiating himself into Japanese culture: it was Octave Mirbeau, in his preface to the catalogue for the Venice World Fair, who said that what the artist was looking for was "that exquisite freezing of visual relationships to be found in Japanese prints".
