An exceptional evening! This enchanting chateau, a 17th century masterpiece which inspired Louis XIVth to build Versailles, opens its doors to you. The tour begins by a visit to the "Carriage Museum" (from a roman carriage to the 20th century saloons) followed by dinner which will be served in the L'Ecureuil restaurant in the chateau grounds. At sunset you can visit the chateau (audio guides included) and stroll around the gardens brilliantly lit by 2000 candles and to accompany these exceptional moments, recorded classical music is played from a part of the garden.

History of Vaux le Vicomte Castle
There are two
elements of major significance that contribute to Vaux le Vicomte's lasting
fame.
Vaux was the tragic setting for the downfall of Fouquet, a faithful minister
who paid the price of life imprisonment, because of an embezzlement he did
not commit, because of the jealousy of others and also because he went a
little too far in bestowing lavish hospitality.
For a period of ten years under Fouquet's protection, Vaux was also a haven
for leading French artists. Writers, poets, painters and sculptors gave the
best of their talents to the glory of Vaux : Jean De La Fontaine was indeed
a good friend of Fouquet and Jean-Baptiste Poquelin, known as Molière
(1622-1673) performed the Ecole des Maris and then a ballet-comedy written
for the fête of August 17 called Les Fâcheux. Protected by the royal family,
he composed numerous plays in verse and prose to entertain the court or
Parisian audiences. His greatest works make use of type-cast but vivid
characters to attack personal or public vices.
