8th district (arrondissement) : Champs Elysees & Madeleine

Champs Elysees : No street in Paris is more well known than the Champs Elysees avenue. The tree lined avenue is 1.2 miles long and runs from the Arch of Triumph to the Egyptian obelisk at the place de la Concorde. What an impressive promenade in Paris. Many luxury shops & restaurants (However few of them to be recommended). On Sundays the Champs Elysees are crowded by tourists and parisians shopping as most of the shops are staying open. Places to see - to visit are the Arch of Triumph and the famous place de la Concorde, Lido cabaret, La Durée restaurant, Fouquet's... Champs Elysees Paris

Palais de l'Elysee : The building of this palace was orchestrated by the Count of Evreux at the beginning of the 18th century. It has been the official residence of the President of the Rebublic since 1871.
Montaigne Avenue : Great fashion designers, jewellers, prestigious shops and renowned restaurants... And of course the famous palace Plaza Athenee hotel nestled at number 25.
Grand & Petit Palais : Both built for the universal Exhibition in 1900 - The two buildings now host major paintings exhibitions and also the International Fair of Contemporary Arts (FIAC).
Madeleine Church & Rue Royale : The Rue Royale is the large avenue joining Madeleine Church and the famous Place de la Concorde where is set a giant Egyptian obelisk exalting the reign of the pharaoh Ramses II (It once marked the entrance to the Luxor Temple). The Madeleine district is renowned for its boutiques (fine grocery food, chocolates, fashion shops) and restaurants.
Jacquemart Andre Museum : The Jacquemart Andre museum is one of the hidden marvel of Paris … Very few tourists know about. A unique collection of 18th century French masterpieces and works by the Flemish masters exposed in an authentic mansion. More details about Jacquemart Andre museum

9th district : Opera & department stores (Galeries Lafayette & Printemps)

Opera Garnier : It was built on the orders of Napoleon III as part of the great Parisian reconstruction project carried out by Baron Haussmann. The project for an opera house was put out to competition and was won by Charles Garnier, an unknown 35-year-old architect. The Grand Staircase is one of the most famous features of the Palais Garnier. Built in marble of various colours, the double stairway leads to the foyers and the different levels of the auditorium. Not to be missed when visiting the Garnier Opera : The auditorium, the Salon du Glacier, the foyers, the Grand Staircase, the library-museum & the main façade topped with its golden statues. In 1964 a new ceiling was painted by Chagall and in the year 2000 the main façade of the Opera was completely renovated, thus revealing its original rich colours and golden statue-work. Galeries Lafayette : In 1893, two cousins, Théophile Bader and Alphonse Kahn decided to open a novelty store at the corner of Lafayette and Chausée d’Antin in the active shopping district near the Opera, which recently opened the Saint-Lazare train station fed by a continuous flow of travellers from, Paris’s suburbs and the Provinces. Galeries Lafayette is today the biggest department store in Paris - A real shopping paradise - The main store & its coupole should'nt be missed. More information on the official website. Printemps : The other department store note to be missed - Printemps Departement Store is indeed the largest beauty department in the world, 45,000 square metres of shopping dedicated to fashion & luxury brands with 3,000 must-have, a million products, discover a parisian historical monument and its panoramic terrace with a 360° view of Paris - Adress : 64, boulevard Haussmann. 10th district (arrondissement) : Saint Martin Canal & Republique

Saint Martin Canal : The Saint Martin canal is a popular destination either for Parisians or tourists ... It is 4,5km long streching from Bastille to La Villette (A part of it beeing covered). Thing to do : If visiting Paris during summer walk the banks of the canal and take time for a coffee or a beer in one of the typical parisian bistros shadowed by the trees. At night the area is very popular with students.
Republique : A large square & avenues built by Haussmann - A huge statue by Leopold and Charles Morice is erected in the middle. A popular & boyant district. Chez Jenny brasserie is located steps away.
