1 - Pay more for a premium location: A great location is the key when renting a flat in Paris but you are bound to pay more if the apartment is situated in the upscale districts of the city: Saint Germain des Prés, Latin Quarter, Champs Elysées, Le Marais, Louvre Rivoli, ... However it should worth it as you'll be close to plenty of restaurants, museums and places to see.

3 - Questions you should ask before renting: Is it a smoke free apartment? In case of top floor, is there an elevator? Is there a computer with Internet free or Wifi available? Can you use the telephone and what is the charge? How much is the security deposit? What are the door codes? Many building entrance have one or even two sometimes... Get a detailed contract clearly stating what is included and what is not and never accept cash payments.
