The Pere Lachaise cemetery (Cimetière du Père Lachaise) is may be the only great place to see in the 20th arrondissement. It is the world's most-visited cemetery with hundreds of thousands of visitors annually.

The Pere Lachaise hosts many famous tombs including the following ones : Édith Piaf, Gérard de Nerval, Alfred de Musset, Théodore Gericault, Eugène Delacroix, Frédéric Chopin, Georges Bizet, Jean Moulin, Marcel Proust, Honore de Balzac, La Fontaine... And also : Richard Wright, Oscar Wilde ... The most visited ones are Jim Morrison's who died in Paris the 3rd of July 1971 and Victor Noir's (A fertility symbol ...). History of the place

The name of the cemetery comes from Father François de la Chaise (1624-1709), official confessor to Louis XIV - The Sun King. But the cemetery was established by Napoleon in 1804. First most of parisians were reluctant to have their family graves here as the place was located too far from the city center. But the transfer of the remains of La Fontaine and Molière changed the minds... Today beeing buried here is considered to be a great privilege as the cemetery runs out of space (300.000 people are buried there).
