In the heart of Le Marais district just off the Franc Bourgeois Street, the Carnavalet museum (Musée Carnavalet) is set in two old mansions of the XVIth century - It is dedicated to Paris city history and visitors can admire its collection of paintings & drawings or pictures of Paris through the 100 rooms it counts. Good to know : Entrance is free for the permanent collection.
Nice thing to do when visiting Le Marais : The Carnavalet museum followed by a wander in the surrounding streets is a nice choice for an afternoon off the beaten tracks of the city of lights.

Le Marais is a trendy district in Paris now celebrated for its nightlife. In the eleventh century, Order of the Temple cleared the marshlands in the northeast Philippe Auguste's enclosure. From the fourteenth century onwards, the aristocracy built large residences in the area, a trend which was accelerated by the creation of the Place Royale (which would become the Place des Vosges) by Henri IV in 1605. Fan of antiques don't miss the reputated Saint Paul village just off the Rivoli street ... Carnavalet museum also worth a visit.
